What to do if you smell a phish!

You are busy people!! You don't have time for me to tell you what 'phishing' is ... again!!

You already know what it is!

You're smart, but don't be fooled into thinking that Scammers aren't also using AI tools like ChatGPT, to improve how they scam us.

This may come as a surprise to you, but scammers are using the same technology as we do, to improve how they operate and be more efficient.

This is why we need to be on our 'A' Game... and that game is 'ATTENTION'!

The best way to protect yourself from a phishing scam is to pay attention to what you're being asked to do.

To put it simply... are your emotional buttons being pressed?

What to do if you smell something a bit 'off'...

You already know what to look out for (poor grammar, spelling etc). But here's what you need to do if you sense something isn't quite right.

  • Check in with a collegue or family memeber. Ask them what they think.

  • If it's clear it's a phishing attempt, follow your usual processes for raising a ticket or concern within the business.

  • Don't respond or react to the message.

  • Place it in a separate folder, or delete it (it will go into your 'Deleted Items' anyway.

Conclusion

Sadly, this is the world in which we live. Scammers are lazy, and it's a 'numbers game'.. They'll make little effort but can send out messages to millions of people at the push of a button.

  • Take a breath.

  • Pause.

  • Speak to someone.

This is the best advice we can give you when it comes to phishing.
