This has GOT to be my all time favourite story! (At least for this year).
Virgin Mobile O2 have created an AI 'Granny' to trick scammers! 😂
Let me introduce you to 'Daisy' (it even has AI in the middle of her name 🤣). She is an AI chatbot that Scmmers are speaking to, when they try and trick her out of her pension!!
I cannot tell you how amazing this idea is. Absolute respect to the team that did this!!
How it works...
If a phone scammer calls one of the special numbers set up by the mobile company, an AI chatbot that is "indistinguishable from a real person" will answer the phone.
O2 says it trained the chatbot (who sounds like an elderly woman) on several cutting-edge AI technologies and several AI models.
In one instance, a scammer was held on the phone by Daisy for 40 minutes! (I laughed so hard at this I almost cried!)

The 'flipside' of the coin
For the longest time we've heard how scammers are using AI to impersonate real people to trick unsupsecting public.
No need for expensive call centres full of scammers when AI can do it for you!
But O2 have beautifully turned the table on these people. Of course it won't stop them... but 40 minutes on the phone to an AI-Granny, is better than speaking to YOUR granny, right?!
This is NOT news...
It's coming to that time of year where the weather changes and we have to think about how we prepare for icy blasts, either when walking or driving.
Well, there are some things you should do that will help improve your security at this time too.
Check for OS updates - ensure they're running the latest operating system.
Update Malware protection - It's like a winter coat protecting you from the bad weather
Take a look at your 'apps' - Do you need all those apps? Time for a clean up
Have a contingency plan - If you can't get to the office, do you know what to do? Would you be able to work from home?
...and if you're thinking "Well yeah, but that's the IT teams job". Please note that no one is coming to do this on your families equipment! YOU are the IT team at home!
